Dear Mr. Spotnitz,
I just wanted to drop a note with my two cents regarding the possibility of a 3rd X-Files movie. Do it!!! Please!!!
I know there was a lot of talk about wanting to do a third if the second did well, but I’m not quite sure that was fair. I know you were wanting to know if there was still an X-Files audience after being “off-air” for six years. The problem was that you were coming out with a movie that played to a particular part of your X-Files audience (who liked the “monster” eps in the series), when I think a larger part, and (I believe most probably) a larger part of the general public is more interested in the mythology aspects of the series.
I know that I fall into that catagory. I watched a large part of the series over the years. I LOVED the first movie (owned in VHS, got in DVD, might get it on Blu-Ray), and I loved the mythology. Wasn’t a fan of the monster eps. And even though I’m a big fan of David and Gillian, and I was curious about the new movie, I knew it wasn’t going to spend the money to see it in a theatre, and it was even possible that I might not see it at all. I have to say that at this date, I have yet to see it. It’s possible that I will. I don’t know. I just have to admit that the whole plot idea that was used for it just didn’t interest me.
But.
Even though there has been no details about a possible plot for a third movie other than basically these three things: 2012, Alien Invasion, Colonization. I can tell you at this moment. I will go see that movie. I am confident that you, Chris, David, Gillian, and all the rest can make a great X-Files movie that will be what I have been waiting for since the show ended.
So, for what it’s worth, you do still have an audience. They may have not been in the theatre for the last movie. They have just been waiting for a new one.
Thank you for you time,
Robert
