We Kicked It in the A**!

Dear Frank,

Last weekend represented one of the biggest achievements for the Italian philes in the last few years. During the most famous TV festival, we had a chance to deliver a tribute to our beloved Kim Manners. Thanks to the amazing webmaster of Beyondthesea.it (of course I’m talking about Francesca) and some of its most talented vidders, we watched a 30-minute video about Kim on the big screen.

What can I say? It was incredibly touching and a lot of people (me first) cried. The room at the cinema was almost full: most of the people were X-Files fans, but some others were Supernatural fans or just curious guests.

That day was just perfect. The “Beyond The Sea” webmasters received a sort of prize for the efforts they put in the initiative (I’m not kidding when I say that the organization of that event was like giving birth) and, in my opinion, it was all deserved! After watching this incredibly moving video, where there was Kim talking about some of the episodes he directed (like “Closure” and “The Truth,” that left us crying like babies), some Supernatural fans went to Francesca and told her that the video was so beautiful that they had to start to watch the show! That was one of those moment when I feel really proud to be part of the X-Files fandom.

Last year we had the deleted kiss from Fight the Future as an “Easter egg,” but this year it was even better: in fact, we watched all the kisses between Mulder and Scully on the big screen! I don’t think I have to tell you how awesome it was!

But it’s not all, because we watched “Essence”/”Existence” after the tribute to Kim. Watching the episodes at the cinema was simply priceless and it reminded me how much I want to see Mulder and Scully again in a new movie.

It was epic. We had so much fun and everything turned out amazingly. I can’t stop thanking all the people who made this possible and who joined us in this incredile experience.

Cheers,

Carlotta

Hey Frank!

Did you ever feel that particular sensation, when you rationally know you’ve been part of something great but the emotions are so overwhelming that you can’t even realize what’s happened to you? Well, I feel the same since last Sunday, the day of the Italian tribute to Kim.

It turned out to be a perfect day. A week later the event, I’m still not able to describe it (and it’s not a matter of language, I can’t describe it in Italian, either). My video about Kim affected people in a way I didn’t dare imagine. During the first part they laughed and enjoyed the video, but at the end they were all very moved, someone just speechless, someone shed tears.

To be part of that moment was… well, I feel very lucky to be part of that moment. After the screening many people (not only X-Files fans) came to me saying they loved my tribute and thanks to that I persuaded them to watch (or re-watch) the show. I remember answering to a guy who was there saying, “This is the best thing you could ever tell me.”

After my video, we watched “Essence” and “Existence” (by the way, watching X-Files episodes in a theater is priceless, you should try it sometime ;) ).

During the last scene, when Mulder and Scully are kissing, there was a very long round of applause. No squeeing at all, just a simple, long and moved applause. For Kim, for the kissing scene. I can’t really say it, maybe for all of that, but I know that no other screening at the Telefilm Festival ever ended that way.

I told you, it was a perfect day.

I can’t recreate the magic of that moment, but I uploaded on YouTube some pieces of my tribute. The first part, for which I used only sequences extracted from episodes directed by Kim, and the last part, for which I used the stunning ”Home Again” as soundtrack… and you can listen to us freaking out during the little after credits sequence with all the Mulder and Scully kisses I inserted in my video. We’re squeeing in Italian, but I’m sure you can understand our excitement as well ;)

Ciao!

Francesca
