Hello Frank,
Star Trek: The Next Generation and The X-Files had very similar production and post-production. Both shot on 35mm with the visual effects completed on video. Here’s what Paramount/CBS did to make Star Trek: TNG HD worthy:
* Starting from scratch and using the original film negatives, edited the shows again to match the editing from the original broadcasts.
* Instead of upconverting visual effects, they were recompositioned for a 1080p workflow.
* The newly cut film was then transferred to high definition with a lossless surround sound mix.
* Original broadcast aspect ratio was preserved.
Essentially, they redid the entire show. As I’m sure you’ve seen, the results are stunning! Couldn’t The X-Files do the same thing that Star Trek: TNG did? All it takes is a time and money commitment from the studio. Paramount/CBS did it… 20th Century Fox can do it too! Thanks for all the greatness through the years. I loved Strike Back this past year and am really looking forward to your new show.
Best,
